With their authentic 40s sound, the VIENNA SWING SISTERS sweep their audience away to the GOLDEN ERA OF SWING

RUM & COCA COLA
– A TRIBUTE TO THE ANDREWS SISTERS –

“When these three argue, the musical world reaps the benefits!”

Even if Glenn Miller did break up his tour with the three Minnesota sisters prematurely “because they were constantly arguing”, the Andrews Sisters remain to this day the most popular ‘girl group’ of all time.

For world famous hits like ‚Bei mir bist du schen’, ‘Rum & Coca Cola’ und ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’ Lisa Jakob, Eva Hinterreithner and Susanne Fanny Rader slip into the roles of the three vivacious sisters, LaVerne, Maxene and Patty Andrews.

With moderation and short scenes, written by Wolfgang Lesky, the Andrews Sisters success story becomes a charming and amusing concert about a fascinating piece of music history.

Markus Richter guides the audience through the evening, takes on several roles and sings the parts of Bing Crosby and other guests that worked with the Andrews Sisters.

The VIENNA SWING SISTERS are accompanied by their band THE MOODS – Bernd Leichtfried alternate Bela Fischer at the piano, Martin Treml on bass and Herwig Wagner on drums, under the musical direction of Markus Richter.

It is just possible that the Andrews Sisters recipe for success was in fact their fascinating, frictional sense of harmony – and their humour.

The formation of the Vienna Swing Sisters and the development of their new revue 'Rum & Coca Cola'

“When three women’s voices sound as good together as Fanny, Stephanie and Lisa do, then they just have to sing the best songs ever written for three women!” thought Markus Richter, then musical director of the Theater 82er Haus, when he first heard the three girls singing together.
The musical multi-talent went straight to work arranging around 20 of the songs originally sung by the greatest Girl Group of all time, the Andrews Sisters.

This became the first programme of the Vienna Swing Sisters – a formation dedicated to reproducing the authentic sound of the 40s who also play the three sisters from Minnesota in humorous scenes.  There is one area though in which the three do not emulate their historical role models: they do not argue anywhere near as much as the real sisters, which could be due to the fact that they’re not related…

The result of their musical cooperation with Markus Richter has astonished audiences ever since, right up to President Heinz Fischer, who, as a self-proclaimed fan of the Andrews Sisters, personally expressed his admiration for the Vienna Swing Sisters.

For the 80th Birthday of the late Mayor of Vienna, Helmut Zilk, in front of around 2000 guests, the Vienna Swing Sisters performed with Tony Jagitsch and his Orchestra. When Glen Miller was duly honoured in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, Tony Jagitsch and his Orchestra and the Vienna Swing Sisters were there to make the halloed halls swing.

Touring in 2008 and 2009 as guests stars with the Lungau Big band, the three singers delighted audiences throughout Salzburg and Tirol. Together they were also the musical highlight in Hangar 7 at Salzburg Airport for the ‘Ikarus Night 2008’ and at the Salzburger Nachrichten ‘Leonides Sport Gala 2010’ at the Amadeus Terminal 2.

Actor and Director Wolfgang Lesky was so impressed by their brilliant interpretation that he immediately offered to script scenes for the Vienna Swing Sisters and direct a musical revue containing the songs they were performing.

The revue adds a framework to the spirited and humorous musical material so that audiences can enjoy the full impact of a fascinating slice of musical history.
